Axie Infinity is a popular blockchain video game developed by Sky Mavis in early 2018. Digital pets, also known as Axies, are the fulcrum around which Axie Infinity revolves. Each Axie is a unique ERC-721 NFT with health, morale, skill, and speed features. Axie is a turn-based strategy game that needs tact and planning.
Although Axie Infinity was built on Ethereum, it migrated to a gaming-specific sidechain called Ronin Network. This EVM-compatible blockchain follows a Proof-of-Authority (PoA) consensus model. This has enabled better consistency in transaction fees which has translated into a more leveled playing field for all the gamers.
AXS, an ERC-20 token, is the native governance token of Axie Infinity. The supply of AXS is capped at 270 million. AXS tokens can be used by players to vote on the game development, breed Axies, and stake their AXS holdings.
